My latest dementia book review — about ‘Blimmin Koro! Kātahi rā, e Koro e!’

This is the link to the New Zealand Dementia Foundation website where you can find all my reviews, which are called On the Same Page. The reviews are all bite-sized, designed to give a brief overview of each book and make it easy to decide if the book is for you or not.

There are a number of reasons I write these reviews:

  • Reading about other people’s experiences helped me emotionally and practically to be with Dad. So if I find a book that I think will be helpful for others I review it.

  • I love reading and I like learning more about dementia.

  • I love finding books where dementia is presented in a positive, hopeful, real way, as that helps to reduce the stigma around the illness.

Of the eleven books reviewed so far, Blimmin Koro!:Kātahi rā, e Koro e! by Jill Bevan-Brown (Oratia Books, 2021) is the second children’s book and the first in te reo Māori and English. This is a short but powerful book; I highly recommend it for the kindness and respect shown to Koro/Grandad, who has dementia. Read the review to find out more!

Thanks to Tracey at Books & Co in Ōtaki for bringing this book to my attention
